Our Legacy: Over 100 Years of Advocacy and Change

Since our establishment in 1920, the Delaware Center for Justice (DCJ) has been at the forefront of advocating for meaningful reforms in Delaware's criminal legal system. From the abolition of punitive measures like the whipping post to the creation of more effective probation and parole systems, our efforts have translated into real tangible improvements.

A Special Fundraiser: Celebrating 104 Years of Progress and Impact

To commemorate our 104th year, we are hosting a special week-long fundraiser starting Monday, June 10th until Friday, June 14th. This event is a celebration of our past achievements but also a call to action for continued support. We invite you to join us in honoring our legacy and furthering our mission to create a fairer, more just society.

The Reality: The Need for Second Chances

Out of one million residents in Delaware, up to 400,000 people live with a criminal record. This statistic signifies barriers to accessing employment, housing, and education, as 9 out of 10 employers, 4 out of 5 landlords, and 3 out of 5 colleges conduct background checks. Each year, DCJ serves over 2,000 individuals, helping them restore their lives through various programs:

  • Re-entry Programs: Helping formerly incarcerated individuals reintegrate into society, to improve the recidivism rate in Delaware.
  • Victim Services: Offering support and resources to those affected by crime.
  • School Offense Diversion Program: Providing a pathway for young individuals to clear their records through an intensive, family-based case management regimen that employs proven restorative justice practices.

Without your support, these 2,000 second chances each year won't be possible. Kids will end up in detention centers instead of the classroom. Adults will likely return to prison, facing the most expensive and least effective means of rehabilitation.

Our Goal: $5,000 to Transform Lives

Our target is to raise $5,000 during this special fundraiser. Achieving this goal will directly impact over 2,000 Delawareans, offering them hope and opportunities for a brighter future. Your donation will:

  • Help reduce recidivism
  • Provide job training and housing support
  • Offer educational opportunities and expungement services
  • Prevent youth from entering the criminal justice system

The Power of Your Donation

Every dollar you contribute will play a vital role in transforming lives and communities. Your support will help replace incarceration with rehabilitation, turning obstacles into opportunities. Together, we can continue to make a difference—one-second chance at a time.

Thank you for your continued support. Together, we can build a fairer, more just society.
